Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th 1964) is an American lawyer and politician who is currently the 49th vice-president of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female elected vice president and is also the highest-ranking female officer in American history. A member of Democratic Party, she has been attorney general for California from 2011 until 2017, and also as a United States senator representing California from 2011 to 2021. Harris was born and was raised in Oakland, California. Harris started her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office prior to being enlisted into the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and then to the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003 she was elected district attorney for San Francisco. Harris was appointed Attorney General of California in 2010, and then she was re-elected in 2014. Between 2017 and 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris defeated Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election making her the second African American woman to serve in the Congress, and the first South Asian American American to serve in the United States Senate. As a senator she advocated health reform, federal descheduling of cannabis, a pathway for undocumented immigrants to become citizens as well as the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. Harris also backed progressive tax reform. National attention was gained for her shrewd questioning of Trump administration officials at Senate sessions. This included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual abuse.
